For those of you (you know who you are! :)) who’ve been asking for proposal stories, feel free to visit http://www.susantibrata.com and check out the “long story short” section. On that page, click “what ivana says” to read my story version and click “what david says” to read David’s story version.

Anyways… wedding planning has been really busy. Actually, marriage planning is the thing that consumes most of my time… thinking. It’s honestly not natural for me to think in the “long term” way, but I have to start forcing myself. I realize it’s important and I’m glad I have someone like David who has the natural ability to think in long-term way.

Bring the rain.

For the past few days, God has been trying to tell me something. Seriously, I hear this song for like 4 times a day on the radio  in my car. I haven’t been paying much attention with the songs on Spirit 102.3 FM lately, but somehow this song always comes up at any time possible when I’m in the car.

I relate this experience with the struggle that I have right now. I just believe that everything happens for a reason. I try to remind myself that verse (Roman 8:28) all the time. That was the versa that became the foundation of my Christianity in my early years when I was still a “baby Christian”. In my walk with God, I forgot about that some times. Sometimes I just forget that, really, EVERYTHING in my life works for GOOD.

EVERYTHING. The good and the bad. The happy and the sad. The ups and the downs. Winning and losing. The finished wedding invitation and the unfinished visa business. The rainbow and the rain.

Haha. First of all, I don’t have any clue about the famous Superbowl. I have no idea about the rules, the leader board in the league, or the name of famous quarterbacks. Being in the advertising industry, all I know is that every year during the Superbowl game, there will be great commercials played, and that would be the one thing I want to watch.

Last night, though, it was quite interesting. I knew it was the game between Giants and Patriots. I actually missed the game. Our Sunday Service time got moved to 5:30 and we got home at around 9. The game was over by then and we all knew from the highlights that the Giants won. I was just hanging around in the living room watching the highlights and had this conversation with a friend from church who was sleeping over at our place. He’s an American so obviously he knows all about the game.

From him, I got to know that the Giants was an underdog team. They lost their first 2 games in the season. The coach was highly criticized by the press and his job was in jeopardy. They clearly started the season poorly, struggled, and barely made it to the playoff. On the other side, the Patriots were the undefeated one. They started the season great. It was almost perfect, if only they won that last fight in the Superbowl. They have also won the Superbowl previously for a number of times. They were supposed to be the winner.

But, I like it this way. The Giants deserved being the winner. They struggled, but they fought a great fight at the end. I like the idea of beating the unbeaten. It was definitely a tragic loss on the Patriots’ side, but I just want to focus on the Giants side this time. It really struck me knowing the story behind their winning. After all the struggles, all people’s judgments, the hard exercise, the bad and the pain, all things they had to endure, they won it. Isn’t that worth it all?

This really encouraged me. I recalled these verses that always make me stronger in times of need:
My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” - 2 Cor 12:9
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” - 1 Cor 9:24

Sometimes it’s just extremely hard to keep going when everything around you keep pushing you back. Sometimes you just want to give up and forget it all. Sometimes you just want to decide that it’s going to be your last fight and you won’t do it anymore. Sometimes you just can’t stand it, period. If you do so, though, you’re definitely not going to win. You’ll be done. If you keep going instead, you’ll still have that chance. You might not see it clearly, but it’s there. Moreover, with God all things are possible.

To fight a good fight (and win it) is the greatest thing. What a beautiful story. A happy ending.
